IF YOU DO NOT FILL WITH ENOUGH DETAILS YOU WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS A MEMBER: Helena studied at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (2005-2006) and Laban (2006-2009). Whilst training she was fortunate enough to work with artists such as Rosemary Butcher and Shahar Dor. Since graduating Helena has performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Manchester Oxjam Takeover.

Having grown impatient with the seemingly stationary pace of new developments in dance in the UK and the commercial leanings of the establishment, Helena has decided to embark on a trip around Europe in order to learn more about dance and performance in a broader geographic and cultural context. She hopes to experience situations similar to those found on previous trips abroad, where the dance scene seemed open, collaborative and experienced by those not working within traditionally artistic contexts.

More specific performance ideas Helena is currently working with include multimedia and collaborative projects, ideas on self and “honesty” in performance and improvisation in all stages of production.

Having grown up in the countryside of the South West of England Helena has a close relationship with nature and therefore has strong ecological leanings. Her trip will be aided by the European Rail network and she will attempt to remain vegan (even in France and Italy!)

Further political ideas have recently been enriched whilst working with Nic Green in “Trilogy”, performed at the Battersea Arts Centre and the Barbican Centre. More information on this project can be found at www.makeyourownherstory.org
