My dance videos and live interactive media works explore the amplification of the authentic and the digital, the emotional and kinaesthetic to heighten empathetic viewer responses. I combine dance, music, text, video and interactive media in stimulating explorations of the notion of identity and how this is tied in with the actions of bending cinema, “breaking the frame”, freeing the imagination and otherness.

Recently have been working with Open Lab/Source structures using social media, internet 2.0 and video to explore the re-embodiment of shared experience/video across the internet to the open space studio floor and the setting of parameters for improvisation and choreography. This is an investigation of the use of internet and/or twitter responses to trigger/set parameters during the choreographic process. I have also extended it to exploring the notion “(a)ll bodies exist with and through other bodies in social and political contexts.” (Susan Kozel Closer 2007)

I am interested in employing aleatoric devices when composing with screened internet clips, sourced and found by tagging and search engines logarithms. Soon I am to work with Marco Donnarumma on Host Guest Ghost in DK extending this to a the use of music and video interactive explorations.

My Screendance works explore:
• Dance and camera improvisations, choreographic scores for the dancer and camera, use of formal and experimental ways of shooting, with storyboards and shot lists as well as the "proprioceptive/phenomenological shoot" to amplify and redefine the body as relational process and a reworking all of its normative categories
• Investigate the amplification of the kinaesthetic and the emotional, how authentic and concrete experience is captured by the medium.
• Examine how the digital body and affective images become haptic, how these stimulate the audience’s imagination and engage them empathetically.
• Highlight the influence of postmodern dance practice as well as the cinematic genre of Dogme and a non linear filmic practice.
• Explore the Vertical montage and repetition in the edit as a choreographic tool, choreographic affordances and the use of diegetic sound.

thank you for coming! i enjoyed it as well.

"re-thinking" is usually a good sign. but the truth is with this interactive stuff, it never - or almost never - works the way we "think" it will anyway.
motion tracking in installation has a lot of un-realized potential. so i am happy to hear of yr interest. let me know if you ever want my help!

warm regards,
robert
